Diabetes Digital Media (DDM) has committed to a new, exclusive partnership with Ascensia Diabetes Care to enable more people in the UK to access the multi-award-winning Low Carb Program.

Ascensia, a global company dedicated to improving the health and lives of people with diabetes, will help to support GPs and healthcare professionals to offer people access to the Low Carb Program on the NHS.

The Low Carb Program has over 380,000 users with peer-reviewed health outcomes published last year in the Journal of Medical Internet Research.

It is now available in the NHS apps library following a rigorous NHS app approval process, and can be accessed on iOS, Android and as a web application.

More than 40% of people with type 2 diabetes who start the Low Carb Program on medication eliminate a drug from their regimen at the one-year mark. Benefits seen among the Low Carb Program community include weight loss, improved HbA1c and remission from type 2 diabetes.

Ros Barker, Country Head for Ascensia Diabetes Care said: “We are delighted that Ascensia’s partnership with DDM to deliver this life changing program will enable more people across the UK to sign up for the Low Carb Program by encouraging GPs to make it available on the NHS.

“Our team will be visiting and providing support for GP surgeries across the country to implement the Low Carb Program.”

It was developed in association with Southport GP and 2016 NHS Innovator of the Year Dr David Unwin, and has won a slew of content awards. It received QISMET approval and a CE Mark in 2018.

Dr Campbell Murdoch, Chief Medical Officer at DDM, said: “The Low Carb Program has enabled 1 in 4 people to place their type 2 diabetes into remission. People with prediabetes are seeing their condition resolve, and many are achieving significant weight loss.”
