Diabetes Digital Media (DDM) has joined forces with Novo Nordisk to launch the newly-improved Hypo Program, a digital educational tool designed to increase hypoglycemia awareness.

The Hypo Program marks the first collaboration between DDM and Novo Nordisk, as part of a joint initiative to provide better digital solutions to empower people with diabetes.

The Hypo Program is personalised across four streams: people with diabetes, parents (or carers), teachers and healthcare professionals (HCP). It teaches you everything you need to know about low blood glucose, a common and serious side effect for people with diabetes taking insulin.

Having first launched in 2015, the Hypo Program now contains an educational video in each module, as well as new supporting resources. It can be completed in your own time, and upon completion users are presented with a Hypo Program certificate.

Since 2015, over 235,000 people have joined the Hypo Program, with 88% of people knowing how to spot a hypo, 89% of people knowing how to treat a hypo and after six months 63% experience fewer severe hypos.

Charlotte Summers, Chief Operations Officer at DDM, said: “Our partnership with Novo Nordisk has supported the development of an app for the Hypo Program and accelerates the reach of the Hypo Program, empowering even more people with diabetes around the world to improve their hypo awareness and diabetes management.

“It is our hope that through increased access to the Hypo Program app even more people will improve their blood glucose management and reduce hypoglycemia-related admissions to hospital.”

Adam Burt, Director of Patient Access and Public Affairs, Novo Nordisk Ltd, said: “We’re proud to partner with DDM to launch the Hypo Program and believe that it will become an important resource to help people living with diabetes improve their health and quality of life.

“The parent, teacher and HCP modules will also help ensure everyone involved with a person’s diabetes management has a good understanding of the challenges of living with the risk of hypos and how to make positive changes.”

  • The Hypo Program is available in iOS and Android, and online at hypoprogram.com
