A man from Hampshire has gone all out this year with his Christmas lights in a bid to raise money for a diabetes charity.

Mike Baldwin spent a year planning his festive light display which has been set up outside his home in Waterlooville, near Portsmouth.

He drew inspiration way back in 2005 when he viewed a YouTube video of a family in America who had designed a spectacular Christmas light display outside their house.

Speaking to local radio station The Breeze 107.2, Mike said: “Back in October, I lost my mum to diabetes. Because of what happened I decided to make this display – and raise money for Diabetes UK.

“It’s a pure love for Christmas. I have no real background in lighting, but ever since I’ve had my children, the love for all things festive has got bigger and bigger.”

Mike did not mention whether his mother had type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes.

The display has been meticulously planned and includes the track ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ which has been cleverly timed to coincide with the flashing lights.

Every night he performs the light and musical show for visitors who are then asked to donate money to Diabetes UK. Anyone is welcome and so far this season, the show has been hugely successful.
