Today’s Diabetes Awareness Month success story is about a man who remarkably lost nine stone and put his type 2 diabetes into remission.
When he developed an infection that wouldn’t heal properly he ended up at hospital which is when he was diagnosed.
Upon his diagnosis, Simon wasn’t given much dietary information. “I was just told that I needed to go on a diet and lose weight. But I wasn’t really given much information about what sort of diet that should be, or the types of foods I needed to eat,” he said.
Simon realised he needed to change his lifestyle. “I did a lot of research and scoured the internet and saw that lots of people were achieving impressive results on low carb. That’s when I discovered the Low Carb Program, it looked really helpful and the weekly videos made it easy to follow. Ive managed to stick to it.”
Since joining the Low Carb Program Simon has lost nine stone and reduced his HbA1c to 23 mmol/mol (4.3%). Hes been able to put his type 2 diabetes into remission.
“My motivation is knowing that if I go back to my old lifestyle then I’d probably risk more health complications. I’ve got a daughter who’s 17 and I want to stay around for a long time to see her grow up.”
Simon is one of our Low Carb Champions, and a testament to how cutting out sugar and adopting a real-food diet can have significant benefits for our health. You can read his full story here.
