A man from Hampshire has lost an amazing nine stone and put his type 2 diabetes into remission by following Diabetes.co.uk’s Low Carb Program.

Simon Dando, who works for the National Grid, was diagnosed in 2017 after he developed an infection that did not heal. After a short hospital stay, he decided to do all he could to improve his health.

The 55-year-old said: “I did a lot of research and scoured the internet and saw that lots of people were achieving impressive results on low carb. Then that’s when I discovered the Low Carb Program, it looked really helpful and the weekly videos made it easy to follow. I’ve managed to stick to it.”

Diabetes.co.uk’s award-winning Low Carb Program is a 10-week, evidence-based structured behavioural change programme supporting people with type 2 diabetes and prediabetes to place their condition into remission.

On average, those who complete the program lose about 7kg in weight and improve their blood sugar levels by 1.2% (13 mmol/mol) after the first year. In addition, 40% of people on medication have been able to come off at least one of their medications.

In Simon’s case he lost nine stone (57 kg) and was told he no longer needed to take metformin to manage his condition.

Following the lifestyle plan was easier than Simon thought. He reported that the steps he took to achieve his success involved, “record everything you eat, count the carbs and if you’re looking to lose weight keep an eye on the calories as well”.

Simon is one of many examples of people who have achieved incredible results through lowering carbohydrate intake. To find out how to make simple lifestyle changes to improve your diabetes, visit our award-winning Low Carb Program.
