EBSCO Health, which offers clinical information tools, has acquired HealthDecision, a Madison, Wisconson-based company that provides clinical and shared decision-making tools.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In a statement, EBSCO Health senior vice president of product management Betsy Jones commented on the reason for the acquisition. “This relationship takes us one step further in our journey to offering a breadth of content with an evidence-based foundation, combined with user experience, EHR interoperability and a tailored, personalized solution for providers and their patients,” she said. Jones also noted that HealthDecision’s platform will be integrated into EBSCO Health’s clinical offerings.

EBSCO Health is part of EBSCO Information Services, which provides research databases, magazine subscriptions and e-books to libraries. EBSCO Health’s products include DynaMed Plus (a clinical information resource), Option Grid (which includes tools to help patients and providers compare healthcare choices) and Dynamic Health (a resource to help nurses master necessary skills).

HealthDecision’s offerings include tools for atrial fibrillation, cardiovascular risk, osteoporosis, breast cancer screening, lung cancer screening and hypertension. Its platform combines patient-specific medical data with the latest healthcare guidelines to help clinicians and patients explore medical options.

“HealthDecision was born out of a mission to create tools that transform complex medical information into more actionable and patient-specific formats,” HealthDecision founder and CEO Jon Keevil said in a statement. “I am thrilled that EBSCO Health’s resources and deep expertise in the field of clinical support and evidence-based medicine will greatly enhance our ability to assist patients and clinicians at the point of care.”
