The largest nonprofit health system in South Carolina is boosting its technology and device capabilities via a new decade-long partnership.
Greenville, South Carolina-based Prisma Health announced on Tuesday that it has entered into a 10-year partnership with Siemens Healthineers. The organizations will deploy new medical technology at all Prisma Health sites, which includes 18 acute care and specialty hospitals and approximately 300 outpatient sites. They will also collaborate to form an Intelligence Insights Center.
Prisma Health will deploy a range of new systems from Siemens, including MRIs, CT scanners and portable X-ray machines, said David Pacitti, president and head of the Americas, Siemens Healthineers, in an email.
Additionally, the health system will deploy digital solutions such as Siemens’ teamplay digital health platform to enable cross-departmental interoperability, the syngo.via imaging software for advanced visualization and the syngo Virtual Cockpit software for remote scanning assistance.
“[The partnership] reflects our shared vision and drive to do and be much more together,” Pacitti said. “We are building a unique relationship that will allow us to innovate jointly and transform the delivery of care for all the lives we touch.”
For example, the new technology provided by Siemens will help reduce the number of repeat scans that need to be done for several reasons, including because patients moved during an imaging study, said Sandy Dees, a Prisma Health spokesman, in an email.
“This will save the patient from additional radiation exposure and the expense of another imaging study,” he said.
Another key aspect of the partnership is the Intelligence Insights Center. The main goal of the center is to support clinical decision-making through the use of data analytics and artificial intelligence tools.
The center will also assess the potential of computer-aided workflow tools to improve care and reduce time spent on operational tasks.
“Working together brings breakthrough opportunities to enhance clinical care through the latest medical technology, streamlining our processes and bringing new advances in disease prevention, early diagnosis and treatment,” said Mark O’Halla, president and CEO of Prisma Health in a news release. “This is especially important as we transition more and more towards value-based healthcare.”
As the new technologies are deployed and the Intelligence Insights Center is established, the health system will provide additional workforce development programs for employees to develop new technical skills, he said.
