Talkspace acquires relationship counseling app

Talkspace, a digital health company that lets users message therapists, acquired relationship counseling app Lasting. The companies did not disclose the terms of the deal.

Lasting was created as a subsidiary of the Knot Worldwide by entrepreneur-in-residence Steve Dziedzic. The app has guided sessions and surveys partners can walk through, workshops and other tools for a $12 subscription fee. It could be used as a complement to therapy.

In a news release, Dziedzic said the deal would allow Lasting to reach to more couples.

The service launched on Talkspace’s platform on November 2. Talkspace President Mark Hirschhorn said it would be the first “of many additions” to its platform.

“Lasting, like Talkspace, deeply believes in the idea that technology can be leveraged to help people live healthier, happier lives,” he said in a news release. “Over the years, the Lasting team has used science and data to help couples better understand and connect with one another, leading to better marriages, stronger overall health and improved quality of life.

All of Lasting’s employees will join Talkspace. Dziedzic will join the continue to lead day-to-day operations as senior vice president of Lasting, reporting to Talkspace Chief of Staff Michaela Yule.

Last year, Talkspace raised $50 million from UnitedHealthcare and struck a partnership with Optum’s behavioral health business. It and companies providing telebehavioral health companies, have seen a surge in demand since the start of the pandemic.
