Thin film batteries producer Blue Spark Technologies has secured CE mark for its TempTraq Bluetooth wearable temperature monitor, which the company clams will set a new standard of care for hospitals in Europe.

The approval allows to market TempTraq wearable temperature monitoring and disposable patch to the European consumers and hospital systems.

TempTraq is said to deliver continuous, wireless and temperature readings, and provides temperature data to caregivers from anywhere.

Blue Spark’s wearable patch can also send alerts to mobile devices when the patient reaches a pre-determined and user-set temperature level.

Via TempTraq Connect service, which is supported by the Google healthcare cloud platform, TempTraq can be incorporated directly into hospital central monitoring system and electronic health records (EHR) to safely and securely store patient data.

The device allows healthcare providers to view the temperature in their system when required and receive real-time audible or visual temperature change alerts at the patient bedside through central nursing station.

According to the company, TempTraq has demonstrated efficacy during clinical trials in the demanding environments, including the intensive care unit at the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and various other major hospitals in the US.

The scalable TempTraq system can support a single hospital or a multi-hospital/physician group healthcare system.

TempTraq is claimed to be the only Bluetooth wearable temperature monitor in the form of a soft and comfortable patch, which continuously, safely and comfortably, monitors body temperature for up to 24 or 48 hours and sends alerts to Apple or Android compatible mobile devices.

In May this year, Blue Spark announced that the University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center (UH) study demonstrated TempTraq can detect a rise in body temperature up to 180 minutes earlier, in a majority of patient cases, than the current standard-of-care (SOC) method of intermittent temperature monitoring.

The patented device is a suitable non-invasive solution for doctors and nurses who require a continuous to track, log and respond to fevers quickly, compared to other devices and methods that provide physicians with only one point of data and offer no continuous monitoring or alerts.

Based in Westlake of Ohio, Blue Spark Technologies is engaged in the development of thin, flexible and printed power solutions for printed electronic systems.
