Part 3: What phactMI provides to the healthcare community

As explained in the first two posts in this series (read Part 1 and Part 2), robust scientific and clinical information about medicinal products is an essential resource for healthcare professionals. However, access to this information has not always been easy.

The Pharma Collaboration for Transparent Medical Information™ (phactMI) is a non-profit organization that seeks to improve the lives of patients by supporting the safe and effective use of medicines. The 501(c)(6) organization formed through a collaboration of pharmaceutical companies that shared the goal of making it easier for healthcare professionals to access information about medicinal products. This includes clinical study details and information about ingredients, formulation, storage and stability.

Healthcare professionals can access phactMI services and information at no cost. The phactMI.org website and related programs are funded collaboratively by the member companies.

As a consolidated resource, phactMI.org acts as a one-stop resource for healthcare professionals looking for information on medicinal products from any phactMI member company. It is carefully curated by medical information professionals and data management experts to be up to date and easy to search.

This last trait is particularly important as it allows healthcare professionals to quickly home in on the answers they want. phactMI collaborated with Elsevier to develop a highly intuitive enhanced search capability, currently housed on phactMI.org. The enhanced search capability allows quick access to over 3,000 prescribing information product labels and more importantly, to scientific response documents, which are created by the medical information specialists and departments of the member companies.

phactMI is still
growing. At this time, membership in phactMI is open to pharmaceutical and
healthcare companies that have dedicated medical information departments which
meet standard industry criteria for ethical conduct and transparency. As new
companies join the organization, healthcare professionals will gain access to
even more answers that can help improve patient outcomes.

In the next post, we will interview representatives of phactMI and Elsevier to better understand the collaboration.
