Nordson has acquired Ireland-based Clada Medical Devices to expand its balloon catheter engineering capabilities.

Based in Galway, Clada Medical Devices is engaged in the designing and development of balloons and balloon catheters.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

With a wide range of capabilities, the company is a contract manufacturer of devices and components to the medical device industry.

Nordson will include the acquired business in the medical product line within its advanced technology systems segment.

The acquisition will all allow the company to expand its precision applications within the minimally invasive medical device market.

Clada claims to have capabilities, skills and equipment to design, test and produce catheter balloons and catheters from initial concept through to full manufacturing.

The firm uses advanced balloon stretch blow molding equipment to manufacture any type of balloon from 5mm to 300mm long, as well as 1mm diameter to 30mm diameter.

Clada is specialized in the development of a wide range of catheters from rapid exchange, co-axial or dual lumen design to customer specifications.

Based on customer requirements, catheters will be manufactured to fully completed stage, including sterilization or manufactured to sub-assembly level.

Nordson advanced technology systems – fluid management executive vice president Jeffrey Pembroke said: “Clada enhances Nordson MEDICAL’s design and development capabilities, which further supports our position as a leading full-device solution and component manufacturing resource for OEM’s across the interventional and surgical medical device landscape.

“We are excited to welcome the Clada associates to the Nordson MEDICAL family. We look forward to integrating their engineering expertise and enhancing our medical device offerings.”

Nordson develops, produces and sells differentiated products and systems used to dispense, apply and control adhesives, coatings, polymers, sealants, biomaterials, and other fluids, to test and inspect for quality, and to treat and cure surfaces.

The firm serves a range of consumer non-durable, durable and technology end markets such as packaging, nonwovens, electronics, medical, appliances, energy, transportation, construction, and general product assembly and finishing.
