This World Diabetes Day marks the three-year anniversary of a low carb movement that is helping people with diabetes to take control of their health and achieve lasting benefits.
Diabetes Digital Media launched its award-winning Low Carb Program on 14 November 2015. Since then the program has helped more than 40% of people with type 2 diabetes eliminate a medication at the one-year mark.
This World Diabetes Day, a landmark annual campaign on 14 November, campaigns worldwide will strive to raise awareness of prominent diabetes issues, and diet is one of them.
Momentum is gathering for eating a healthy, real-food diet for preventing and putting type 2 diabetes into remission, and evidence from interventions such as the Low Carb Program is showing how type 2 diabetes is no longer a chronic, progressive disease.
Throughout Diabetes Awareness Month we have been spotlighting success stories from the Low Carb Program community and people who’ve significantly improved their health on a low carb diet. These include Debra Arck, who lost 14 stone on the Low Carb Program, and Simon Dando, who put his type 2 diabetes into remission.
Since its inception, the Low Carb Program has since been presented with a series of accolades and acknowledgements. In 2016, it was awarded the Positive Social Impact Award at the Lloyds Bank National Business Awards UK, then in 2018 the program was victorious at the UK Content Awards.
The Low Carb Program can now be commissioned as structured education on the NHS having received QISMET approval earlier this year, and also received CE Mark approval in June. Last month the program was “Highly Commended” at the QiC awards, and the one-year program outcomes were published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Medical Internet Research in August.
More than 380,000 people are now part of the growing Low Carb Program community, sharing recipes with each other, experiencing better mood and in some cases even reversing symptoms of complications.
