Hoag Health System ( Newport Beach, Calif.) has started construction on a $1 billion expansion at Sun Family Campus, in Irvine, Calif.
As part of the project, the existing hospital will get a new front entrance as well as a 130,600-square-foot pavilion with eight operating rooms and 24 intensive care units (ICUs). The project will also add parking structures, outdoor space, and healing gardens as well as complete a new campus road.
A new patient and staff tunnel will connect the existing hospital to a new North campus complex that will house a women’s health institute and digestive/cancer institute.
The project team includes LPA Design Studios (architect, engineer, interior design, landscape design; San Diego), McCarthy Building Companies (general contractor; Los Angeles), HB&A (construction manager; Gardena, Calif.), and design consultants KPFF (Seattle) and Tk1sc (Irvine, Calif.).
