Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County (MHLC) in Darlington, Wis., started construction on a new $64.8 million replacement hospital and clinic building.

Situated on 36 acres, the new facility will include inpatient and outpatient services.

The 80,000-square-foot hospital will house an emergency department (ED), diagnostic imaging, two operating rooms, a procedure room, medical/surgical unit, pharmacy, rehabilitation, and vision clinic with a retail shop.

A 3,600-square-foot freestanding clinic building and a garage for maintenance storage are also planned.

The project team includes Eppstein Uhen Architects (architect; Milwaukee) and Kraus-Anderson (construction manager; Madison, Wis.).

Construction is expected to be completed in fall 2024. The existing hospital will remain operational during construction.
